3 July 2020.
Stitching is going well on this piece. I'm happy with the black blending into the dark brown while still being distinct. It's exactly the effect I was going for. This is about a weeks worth of work in total, and I regret not taking more pictures. It was hard to figure out how to do the color blends that she has in her fur. She has a lot of orange and black, but they're subtle. I want to capture that subtlety. The black in the stitching gives me hope that I can do the lighter colors justice.
Stitched with single thread in 4" hoop on 100% cotton muslin using a combination of DMC threads and IRIS threads.
Purple carnation threadpainting. I'm not liking the flower stems. I think I'll need to blend in some other shades of green. Working with just what I happened to have in my craft bag in my purse is very limiting.
Gotta love those messy backside lines.
I started to realize that I should have grabbed more shades of purple before starting on the flowers.
I really don't like the bottom flower. The colors are all muddy together. I'm debating just cutting off the bottom and leaving it at the two top flowers and the bud.
I'm liking the dark purple on the top flowers, though.
I'm so close to being done with the stitching on this flower, but the more I work on it, the more I'm not satisfied with it. Maybe carnations just aren't my thing.
Stitching is finished on the flower. I'm still thinking of cutting off that bottom one, even though the top ones aren't much better.
So I'm realizing my error with this flower. I should have done a longer long and short satin stitch instead of the shorter, more fur-like stitch I did it with.
Stitching is finished on this one, just need to put a back on it and decide how I want to use it. I do like this one a lot.
Stargazer lilies are classic funeral flowers. I severely dislike them because they make my eyes and nose itchy. The black background is actually satin stitched.
I just need to finish blanket stitching the border so it doesn't fray. I'm not very good at blanket stitching and tend to be very uneven, but I guess this is good practice.
I did a rough sketch of Bones that I will transfer to white fabric. If i remember correctly, the fabric I plan on using is a poly/cotton blend remnant from Joann Fabrics. I love digging through the remnant bins for cheap fabric to embroider on.
I will use the photo of Bones to match her fur patterns and texture. The sketch is just to get the basic outline. Usually when I work with a sketch pattern, I will transfer the sketch to a piece of tracing paper and actually pin the paper to the fabric. This time I think I'll try transferring directly to the fabric.
This pretty little fuzzbutt with the derpy face is my cat, Bones. She is missing her upper canines and has a clipped ear from her former life as a stray. She is now an extremely pampered, babied, and loved housecat.
I've seen many beautiful thread paintings of cats, so I thought I'd try my hand at it. Since she's my cat, I won't be putting it up for sale, but I will post the progress and finished embroidery.
